Wadsley and Loxley Commons

Where?
Wadsley & Loxley Common is located in Loxley (shock), just off Loxley Road, up Long Lane.

Post code: S6 6SP
If you follow this right turn there is a small car park at the end.

Location Symbol represents the mentioned car park,
but I also believe there is another small area to park at Aldene Road

What's this walk have to offer?
  • Woodland walk
  • Muddy
  • Popular with local dog walkers
  • Bridle ways
  • Easy-going trails
  • Narrow/mixed terrain trails

From the car park there are many option of trails, but all pretty much lead round in a circle. It's a lot bigger than first impressions though. The first time we came here we parked up on the road up to the car park, and followed a path down that way. The second time we parked up in the car park and headed straight forward on the main path. The third time we took the first left on the main path, from the car park. All are pretty much the same except the main bit is a bit flatter and less muddy. The main path leads you to an open grassy area, into a wooded area. The grassy part would be nice for a picnic on a sunny day.

If you take the first left from the main path in the car park it can be very muddy, so be careful, it also comes very close to the golf course that is nearby (Hillsborough Golf Course) so keep an eye the dogs don't end up on the fairway! It's quite woody this way and great for exploring in the trees for the dogs.

We encountered lots of other dog walkers while here so it's a great place to socialise your dog, everyone seems to be off lead and friendly who we've met so far.

There isn't really much water for the dogs to play or swim in so be sure to bring towels for muddy paws!
This walk can be as long or as short as you like, so it's good if you just want to squeeze a bit different, bit longer, walk to your usual walk.

We haven't come across any cyclists or joggers up here, not to say there never will be, but it does seem a place that's mostly for dog walkers.

Although there's not much to write about this walk, it is a really enjoyable walk and we highly recommend it.

There is nowhere in walking distence that have refreshments or toilets so it's advisable to bring a drink and be prepared to drive to find the nearest rest stop! The Admiral Rodney is around a 10 minute drive away but it is not dog friendly, the beer garden is large though and has great views so would be lovely for a summers meal/drink in warmer weather.

It's worth noting that there is a small fenced grass area where we did spot a few horses, and other fields around the lower parts, so if your dog isn't good with horses keep a look out for this part. It is near the bottom as you get nearer the road on the other side.

Location Symbol represents the end where the horses were.
